The Edublog Awards is a community based initiative started in 2004 in response to community concerns relating to how schools, districts and educational institutions were blocking access of learner and teacher blog sites for educational purposes. The purpose of the Edublog awards is promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media. Once a year, about this time of year, we bloggers get ten days to nominate our favorites in categories that include:
- Individual Blog
- Group Blog
- New Blog
- Class Blog
- Student Blog
- EdTech Blog
- Teacher Blog
- Library/Librarian Blog
- Administrator Blog
- Influential Post
- Individual Tweeter
- Twitter Hashtag
- Free Web Tool
- Video/Podcasts
- Educational Wiki
- Best Open PD
- Social Network
- Mobile App
- Lifetime Achievement
Then, the good people at Edublog sift through and come up with a short list of nominees.
Two more days and I would have missed the opportunity to nominate one of my favorite blogs, ExPat Educator, as Best Teacher Blog in the 2012 EduBlog Awards. If you haven’t visited her site, you’re missing out. She provides in-depth suggestions for maximizing learning in the classroom. I have gotten so many ideas from her fertile mind.
