My daily class activities
Each week of the school year, I post what I’m teaching on a grade-specific wiki. It tells viewers what lesson I’m teaching in the K-5 curriculum (sorry, this isn’t available for 6th grade currently) and how I blend the authentic tasks, essential questions, big ideas, and student-centered projects into my class. I also include add-on lessons sparked by the skills learned in the curriculum, student resources, parent resources, favorite links, and whatever extras helped students provide evidence of learning in this particular week. Right now, they’re open to view, but September 10th, they be available only to those who have signed up. Why?
- I want you to be comfortable asking questions
- I want you to be able to chat with other who are also following the SL technology curriculum, see how they address any prickly parts
This year, it’s FREE to anyone interested in following along, getting help on their weekly lessons, and discuss the curriculum with other teachers using the series. All you have to do is provide Proof of Purchase for the grade-level SL curriculum textbook (Fourth Edition) so that you can follow along with each lesson. If you don’t have the proof of purchase, contact Zeke Rowe (admin@structuredlearning.net). There’s a good chance he can come up with what you purchased.
I’m very excited about this program. I think it provides teachers with a safe method of collaborating on lesson plans and sharing ideas for problem solving, trouble shooting, extending lessons for those students who move faster than others, and aligning lessons with core classroom units. I look forward to chatting with you throughout the school year.

Ask a Tech Teacher 
I teach K-6 in the computer lab, seeing one class 3 times a week from K-5 and 6th every morning. This is my first time in the computer lab, but I have been teaching for 28 years. I would love to purchase all of the books, but of course money is an issue. Which one or two would be the best for me to start with, then modify up or down as needed? (I have never taught kindergarten and today was their first day…what an adventure!)

I’d recommend 1st grade (downsize for K), 2nd (where we start MS Office programs), and 6th because it is so different from the others. The other way to go is purchase the Toolkit (vol. I and II) with 110 projects, grades k-8, and make your own selections. It’s not a curriculum, but it is a project-based approach.

I am interested in following this resource this year. I have purchased the entire K-6 Curriculum Printed and Digital (Transaction ID: 7T880997U5861982E). We have installed a new computer lab with a HP Proliant ML350 Server and 24 HP t5570e Thin Client Workstations. This is my first year teaching K-5 Computer and I am soooo new when it comes to Computer Network Systems. Tredding water at the moment, but I’m slippin’ a bit. All of this to say, I am looking forward to an exciting year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is perfect for you, Shari. All you do is click on the wiki you want to join, join, I’ll verify you have the curriculum, and you’re in. Then, you can see what I’m doing each week of the year (though I’m not back until September). Since you’re already back, you could scroll back to the beginning of last year and see what I did to get you started.

YES, I did – i just purchased the digital version of How Technology Can Jump Start the Inquiry Based Classroom on August 10, 2012- I have a PayPal receipt, but I hate to put the financial info here on the blog. How would you like me to verify my purchase – I also got the posters included in this offer. Im excited to be part of the wiki since I teach all grades K-8 computer class.
