Are there “rules” for making effective powerpoint presentations – especially for beginning creators in elementary school?

Here’s a project I use for grades 3-7. I have skills I ask them to complete and as important, requirements for their class presentation. Second graders can do this also, albeit a simpler topic. The PowerPoint skills should include transitions, animations, insertion of text boxes/images/animated gifs/slides, auto-forward. Students have few problems creating the slideshows even in 2nd grade and love presenting to their classmates.
Does that help?
